PC infected with Antivirus 2008 Pro, can't get it to boot up without it logging off automatically

Hi all,

I have a very serious problem.  Yesterday, my PC became infected with Antivirus 2008 Pro when I tried to run a virus scan with SUPERAntiSpyware.  I downloaded both Spyware Doctor and Spyhunter Security Suite 3 and scanned my PC with both of them.  But, I could not get online to buy a license for either one of them.  Since then, I cannot log onto Windows without it logging me off automatically before my desktop ever comes up.  I also could not get the Knoppix Utilities CD to boot up without the PC restarting itself every time.  I am running Windows XP with SP2.  Should I do a re-install of Windows, or is there a less "cleansing" way to correct this?
