Google installer encountered a problem and needs to close

I have a customer's PC with this popup message "Google installer has encountered a problem and needs to close".  It looks like a rootkit or other virus infection.  I've tried running Malware Bytes, VIPRE antivirus/antispyware, etc but cannot get it removed.  Where's the fix for this bug?

Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

Delete any Google applications.  You will have to reinstall any Google applications that you are using.

Is it win vista 64 bit ? you will encounter such problems when installing google products with windows OS 64bit version.

if you are sure that it's a rootkit or spyware, download hijackthis from www.hijackthis.de ... Install it, run and provide us with the log that will pop up upon finish scanning.
