Hello Systemmanagement,
Thank you for the response. I fixed the problem

Browse All TopicsHello all,
Well Mcaffee's knowledge base has been down for a couple of days and unfortunately I installed EPO 4.5 last Fri. Everything installed fine and I can get to the web console. I can add a system to the system tree, but I cannot deploy the agent to any machines (deploy failed). so I've tried to ping a system and the error message returns "failed to determine host IP address". I can ping the system from the command prompt.
I know it is probably a security setting or a DNS problem...but I thought I'd post here before poking around in the Server.

systemmanagement was right. The ping utility in ePO is not the ICMP ping in the traditional sense. In my case, I found the problem to be the propogation of administrative rights, which is defined in GP. I checked the service account I've been using and figured out that computers in specific OUs with with no administrative priviledge definitions through GP would miss the setting that gives the service account access to the client. It's worth checking your Group Policies if you have this problem and compare the problem clients by Organizational Units.

Hi mfleming07,
I thought the same, but when agent got installed...i was sucessfully able to ping the system from the ePO console itself. You can only ping the systems which has ePO agent installed on them, from the ePO 4.5 console.
For the clients deploy, you can check the server tasks logs, to know what exactly made the deploy failed.
