How Do I Remove CA Internet Security Suite 2009 from 64-bit Vista?

I've tried removing CA Internet Security Suite 2009 via Add/Remove Programs. Vista Home Premium, 2.4 Ghz Acer Desktop system, 4 GB RAM. It won't uninstall the Firewall or Antivirus; same result in safe mode,  "unable to uninstall error #9039. Pls contact technical support. I contacted them via LiveChat, a joke, as they recommended I buy the telephone support with a technician. Nope, I'll nuke it first. They are also unwilling or unable to provide the list of reg entries to remove what they called the remnants of the CA Suite. Can someone here offer a solution or a direction?

Have you tried disabling it from startup in msconfig and then reboot and then run the uninstaller?

you can also try revo uninstaller     http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Thanks, but the same error msg: cannot uninstall, error 9039. I understand Revo still 32-bit only, explicitly not for use with the 64-bit Vista.

Thanks again -- the perfect installer looks like a possible. I'll try it first thing in the morning and let you know right away. I went the full gamut with CA, script, remote assistance and chat and their only suggestion was that I purchase their phone support which I refuse to do. Keep your fingers crossed!

Nope, perfect installer wants $34.95 to uninstall anything and I am being cheap of necessity right now: although the site says 'free trial' in one place, it also indicates 'free demo,' which is  more accurate. Any  ideas out there for a manual uninstall?

Yes, the first thing I wanted to try -- unfortunately, this is my partner's brand new machine and the first thing he did was put on CA, so the earliest restore point was at installation. A conundrum.

Yes! Your Installer is definitely a product I'd have no trouble paying the asking price for. The trial worked, the CA is gone, and I'm thrilled.

Again, thanks for your tenacity in helping: you didn't give up even when I was tempted to throw the pc out the window in frustration. I learned a lot about third party uninstallers that I suspect will be invaluable in dealing with 64-bit Vista for awhile.
