Actually, I already did the parellel install, and I will go back and try to run chkdisk off of the recovery console, but I don't recall being given that option. The disk I have for this machine is XP Professional w/ no service pak, so I packed it all up to current after the install.
I used this article to gain access to the folder in question, but I would like to be able to boot to either instance of XP ( the original install was packed to date as well, and proteced with ample spyware ad ware and AV, but maybe something got though. I have reinstalled AV and scanned, but I don't know how to check the old registry, unless I am in that old instance.
Under BIOS, I do not find PNP Os parameter.

* Under BIOS settings if you see a line " PNP Os installed" seti it as YES.
*In recovery console when you boot from XP cd, you should run a chkdsk /f.
*Only thing you should do is copying your profile folder under documents and settings and pasting it into your new installation. After you install your new OS and create user, change the folder names of profile folders under safe mode with command prompt so that your user will use your previous profile folder.
