Question

Uninstalling Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edt.

Asked by: pentiumsale

I have a customer computer which is running slow at the start. I ran Spysweeper and it found and delete a lot of spyware. The computer runs pretty good but there is and issue with Symantec Antivirus(SAV).Looks like the customer tried to install Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition and for some reason it was not completed. Now, I see the S.A.V icon in the taskbar, also I can see it in the Add remove programs list(but cannot be uninstalled). When I double clik the icon a windows says "Please wait while Windows configure Symantect antivirus" Then it says that the feature you trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.Click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package Symantec Antivirus.msi . I already tried the removal tool from Symantec but it still there.I can see the folder under Program files also. On the Add remove program not remove option is showed. I need assistance on how to remove completly this Symantec.

The first sugestion is to go to msconfig and turn off all starting services,
restart the computer in safe mode
and run the norton removal tool.

Once this is done restart the computer in safe mode again and manually delete the program folder in safe mode.
restart the computer and verify that the program is not running , then run msconfig again and turn on the services at startup
