My HP laptop has Windows XP OS. It was infected by virus and timely action helped in cleaning the infected .scr folders
Though none of the orig files/folders got deleted in process but all orig folders are now in hidden.
From Window Menu -- Tools -- Folder Options -- View, Setting "Show Hidden files and folder option" does not show folders. Basically Show hidden option is not getting set.
However, i can access the folders and files typing full command.
Is there any way to set hidden file option now. Looks like some resgistery entry changes require.
Please advise

But still i get some wierd popup when i start my laptop.
looks like there is still some autorun cmd or exe is present which is causing.
Also got to know ( from Net) to reboot in safe mode disabling system recovery and run virus check.
Could you please advise on how to run in safe mode disabling system recovery ?

The following two step solution that work many time for me and my customer and it is proven to mutch more effective than safe mode scan technique.
1) look for unwanted program that load at start up ad remove them
- clean up "start up" folder in start menu for any user
- open windows registry and look for "run" and "runonce" string. If a program load at start up you should find a key in "run" or "runonce" path in registry. Check all key remove key from unwanted program. Remove the unwanted exe also (you can see the path in the value of the key)
2) perform a full antivirus scan from a bootable CD (you can build one or you can download from your antivirus software vendor). My favorite tool is Kaspersky rescue CD (you can build the bootable rescue CD using the 30 trial version). This is much better than perform a scan in safe mode.
Now reboot windows and check again fro unwanted program in "run" and "runonce" path in registry: If the key that you removed in step 1 are still present into the registry also the virus was not removed.

You Check "show hiden file" option , then When you check again folder option, it is set back to "dont show hidden files".. if then Do this ...
Go to Start >> RUn >> regedit >> navigate to ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar
Now right click on,and delete the value "CheckedValue" in the right hand window.
Now create a new "DWORD Value" called exactly CheckedValue in the right hand window.
Double click on CheckedValue.
In the opening 'Edit DWORD Value' box,set the 'Value data:' to 1
Close the "Registry Editor"
Restart your PC
