Question

Worm.Win32.Fujack.bd has corrupted many files...Recovery is needed

Asked by: JatinHemant

Hi friends !

My computer is badly infected with the Virus Worm Win32.Fujack.bd. I am using Kaspersky Antivirus. When

I scanned my PC with this antivirus software, I found many many files infected with the Virus Worm Win32.Fujack.bd.

For example, I have a file on the following location D:\cours de c et c++\courc++\AppendixA.html. This is an html file (web page) and is infected with the mentioned virus worm.

When I try to open it, it opens but gives the error...Action Cancelled. When I scanned it with my antivirus software, it detected the worm and asked me to disinfected or delete it. Now please notice...

When I choose to disinfect the file...the antivirus software disinfects it and after the disinfection, I can't open it. A message comes and states that.....This is not a valid Win32 application.
Wnen I choose delete the file...the antivirus software delete it and after the deletion, I can't see that file there where it was previously.

Then, I use handrecovery tool (It is one of the tool that I found in Winternal's ERD Commander 2003 CD).

With this tool, I can find all the files which were previously deleted by intentionally or accidently. I can also see the same file AppendixA.html (at the same location D:\cours de c et c++\courc++\AppendixA.html). When I recover it, I succeed to recover it but it is still virus infected.

Please tell me whether it is possible to remove only virus from the file. Because I want that file non-infected. All the antivirus software Norton, AVG, McAfee, Avast, Avitra, Kaspersky and Panda I have used but generally they remove the files which are virus infected and this is not a permanent solution.

Please note that IF I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT FILE AND IT IS VIRUS INFECTED, THEN I WILL NEED SOME TOOL OR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE WHICH WILL REMOVE THE VIRUS FROM THE FILE AND NOT THE FILE...

THESE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE ARE DOING THE SAME AS A PATIENT COMES TO THE HOSPITAL THEN THE DOCTOR WILL NOT PROVIDE HIM THE MEDICINES TO HELP IN HIS RECOVERY, HE WILL JUST KILL HIM...

I think you got what does the mean of my saying...I want to recover the file as it was before the infection...

Please help me in this regard...

Thank you.

Regards...

Well it could be the case that these files were replaced by the virus.

the former AppendixA.html could be a virus with just the name AppendixA.html.

So when the file is disinfected the file size drops down to 0.

You could check this. So basically all you valuable files were already deleted by the virus, keeping just the name / filesize as disguise. You might want to use a file editor to check the content of the (infected) files.

You can also give www.prevx.com a try on this.

Hi,
Sometimes an antivirus just can't recover or cleaned an infected file.
Take a look at this for example.
http://service1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/info/html/cannot.repair.trojan.or.worm.html

Some file infector also which replaces the legit file with itself moves the clean file to some bak folders so it can be retrieved in that case. But in some casesit just can't be.

Can we please look at the Kaspersky log if you have it.

Can we also look at a hijackthis log?
Please run Hijackthis and show us the log.
http://danborg.org/spy/hjt/alternativ.exe
Open Hijackthis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" please don't fix anything yet.

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for not posting Kaspersky log for a long time. Please see that I scanned the computer and Kaspersky detected many files infected with virus Worm.Win32.Fujack.bd. But I didnt delete them as I knew that if I will delete them I might loose some important files&but unfortunately somebody else who uses the same pc has deleted them and I restored some of those files from handyrecovery tool.

Now I am facing another problem. Please remember that my pc is now free from viruses and Trojans.

You please see the log&there were two files each on C: and D: affected&

deleted: Trojan program Trojan-PSW.Win32.OnLineGames.bdb      File: C:\ntde1ect.com
deleted: Trojan program Trojan-PSW.Win32.OnLineGames.bdb      File: D:\ntde1ect.com

Now these files are deleted. But I have some problem. When I try to open the volumes by double clicking on them, I receive Open With&.

(You see this Open with Option is the same when you try to open a file for which supported application is not installed.)

One of the experts from experts-exchange gave me the suggestion to go in Tools----> Folder Options----->File Types----->Advamce----->select NONE and click on set default.

I followed this path but when I click on Advance button, there I cant see none. In the Action there is find only.

I have done the following tasks:

1. I have cleared all the Temporary Internet Files, Temporary Files, Cookies with CCleaner
2. I have run Spybot Search & Destroy and it didnt detect even a single error. It gives congratulation that everything is correct.
3. Then I tried Advance Registry Optimizer Trial Version. It searched 180 different errors but it only fixed 172 errors. (BECAUSE IT IS TRIAL VERSION)
4. Then I scanned the pc with Kaspersky Antivirus but as I told you someone other user had already scanned it and deleted the files. (I recovered some of those files with HandyRecovery Tool.)

This is a portion of the Kaspersky log file:

You 1st have to get rid of:

[X] - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsass] C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe

Added by the VOUMIT-A WORM! Note - this is not the legitimate lsass.exe process which is always located in the System (9x/Me) or System32 (NT/2K/XP) folder and should not normally figure in Msconfig/Startup!

you can post that file here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and posts us the results of the virus scan.

I don't think you can recover those infected files that has been deleted. I was hoping if it was a file infector that only replaces the files with itself but the real file is still intact somewhere, but if it's not the case then I can't think of any way of retrieving a clean file.

About the open with problem, that could be a result of the IRCBot variant showing in your logfile, we'll see if "open with" problem goes afterwards.

1.  Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.zip

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
*  Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
*  Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
*  Choose your usual account.

*  Open the extracted folder and double click "RunThis.bat" to start the script.
*  Type "Y" to begin the script.
*  It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
*  Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
*  Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
*  When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display "Finished", then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
*  Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file "Report.txt" back

2. Also run this.
Download ComboFix to your Desktop, from either of these locations:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click "combofix.exe" and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Thanks for your valuable comments&

Finally I got the solution. I run SDFix and ComboFix both and after finishing the complete procedure, I found that the drive volumes are opening normally. I am really happy with the solution.

By the way, for your kind perusal I am posting the SDFix Report, ComboFix Report and HijackThis Report.

I have used these tools on two computers where I found the problem of Volume not opening normally, Open with option comes. Now it is Ok, after applying these tools they are opening normally.

I have another pc where the problem is little bit different. When I double click on the volume, it doesnt open. For one second cmd.exe runs and shows the command prompt (Black and White Text Screen), then it disappears.

I will try these two tools there also. If you can see these logs and tell me what was the cause of the problem and what should we see in these logs to find out the cause of the problem, then it will be so nice of you.

Please let me follow the same procedure on another defected pc.

Thanks again to all of you for attending me. And special thanks to rpggamergirl.

Regards,

Hemant
