cannot remove trojan.vundo.variant

I have a xp pc that has recently been infected with what nortan sees as trojan.vundo.variant. it was receiving several very "distrubing" popups and a web background and the usual tray icon messages. I have ran the symantec vundo removal tool and the smitsfraud removal tool on the pc already and it removed the tray icon. and ran hijack this and superantispyware and im guessing removed parts of the virus but not all i manualy deleted some suspicious files but most seem to rewrite themselves if anyone has delt with this before or can help it would be much appreciated.
