Browse All TopicsHello,
I am migrating my main server which was 2003 32-bit over to a 2008 64-bit machine. Currently my old server is running SAV 10.1 Corporate. I just got off the phone with symantec and apparently they only support server 2008 on the client level. So, since my renewal is up on the first week on August anyway, I am shopping for a new antivirus solution. Any suggestions? All i really want is antivirus software, no internet security or anti-spam. i have other software I am using for that.
Thanks.

Thanks, I'll give that a look, but if I remember correctly, it is bundled with internet security and anti-spam software as well. Don't really want to pay for something I don't need. Anybody have experience with Eset's NOD32 AV? That seems to be compatible with the environment I am running and has an AV only version.
This is a good question. I had this problem for 2 months. I researched many companies for 64-bit antivirus solutions.. I narrowed my decision down to Kaspersky and Panda. Unfortunately I went with Panda. Im not happy with Panda at all. They sent me the wrong files. And they have had to remote in and fix the software 3 times. The customer service is easy to reach though. I would go with Kaspersky. NOT PANDA!
We are NEVER going to reach a concensus on EE with regards to the "best" security software - simply because there is no "best" package. Yes, there are packages which are going to meet your requirements the most and there will be the packages which you like compared with other packages, but there is no best solution to a question like this.
A combination of security products is usually the best way of protecting yourself, rather than putting all your security eggs in one basket as you tend to do with the "Internet Security" products marketed by the best known security firms. In many cases, these complete packages don't actually work as effectively as if you spread the load between several programs.
For corporate anti-virus, I have excellent experience with Grisoft's AVG software. I have deployed AVG Anti-virus Network Edition 8.0 on several networks, with excellent results (including whilst running on Windows Server 2008). Included with version 8, you have anti-spyware and anti-rootkit modules, but they can easily be switched off if you don't wish to use them. In the case of anti-spyware, I would certainly recommend you use more than 1 program to protect you (but for viruses, use only 1 anti-virus utility and no more).
The Network Edition has support for central distribution of updates (I download and update all client workstations every 30 minutes) and monitoring of stations for their status, virus database patch level, etc.

I absolutely love Nod32 however they are a beast it will really lock down your cmputer and alot of simply quetionable software will get tagged and removed so you really have to be aware of your testing tools other anti anything software or anything that accomplishes a task in a non standard format. But at the same time i have never seen Nod32 let a machine get infected when it was running and our company deales in some of the most infected 3rd world contries you can get power and internet to. One step down from this would be Avira's Antivir its a little less combative against legitimate programs tha work in unusual ways but still has a very high block of virus rate.
