Question

Spyware or something _ Sed.exe and Grep.exe

Hi, in this previous question : http://www.experts-exchange.com/Virus_and_Spyware/Anti-Virus/Q_23593872.html       , the expert Moh10ly suggested me to take a look at this two files cause they might be dangerous:

C:\WINDOWS\sed.exe
C:\WINDOWS\grep.exe

Can someone advice me if they are in fact Spyware or something dangerous, and how is the correct way to get rid of them?

They should be safe to keep. Looks like they are used to find files or patterns within files. Those two are common commands used in the Unix/Linux environment.

If you are still worried, upload those two files to:

http://virusscan.jotti.org

See what it reports back.

Thanks Greyknight17, i uploaded the 2 files as you suggested and it said it found Nothing...

So i guess i am safe and clear now right?

C:\WINDOWS\sed.exe
C:\WINDOWS\grep.exe

The above 2 files are legit files, used by legit tools, in your case they belong to Combofix and should not be deleted while combofix is still installed.

If you are sure your computer is clean, it's a good idea to uninstall Combofix rather than leave it on your pc.
Click on start - run and type the following:

combofix /u

This will uninstall Combofix from your pc.

Thanks a lot to you all. So this was the last thing i needed to check to see if the PC was clean. so now definetely what i will do is uninstall Combofix.

Thanks RPGgamergirl for letting me know those where combofix files.

No problem.

When you uninstall combofix it will also reset System Restore.
The latest version of Combofix doesn't have to be uninstalled, it now has an auto-update feature. But yours is an older one and doesn't have that feature.
