Browse All TopicsI have a laptop which was infected by the av2009 virus. I've been trying to clear it up with some of the other suggestions on expert exchange. Have managed to get it mostly cleared up but i'm still having trouble with Internet Explorer. When an address is typed into the address bar everything works ok. When i search for something with google the results page shows but is in a slightly different format (it just doesn't look right). Click on the link for the page i'm searching for and different pages come up. I'm using Antivir PE Classic as my virus software. It is fully updated and fails to find any detections. Please help

These links should work:
Download MalwareBytes from either of these locations, update before scanning if you can.
If it won't run, you would need to re-download and rename it before saving to your desktop, or use another pc to download and rename it before installing it to the infected system.
MalwareBytes:

If problem pesists
Look for the these FAKE file and delete them if present.(delete in Safe Mode if won't go easily)
C:\Windows\system32
Please do not delete the legit ones in the drivers folder:
C:\Windows\system32
C:\Windows\system32\wdm
Last testing I did for about 6 different Malware apps, showed MBAM to ineffectively clean (and stop in real time for that matter, the execution of the av2009 rogue av...). If this doesnt clear it for you, I would suggest SuperAntispyware.
SuperAnti Spyware

Also, a HijackThis logfile would help further.....

Ok here is the Hijackthis logfile

The malwarebytes file didn't work even when the name was changed. Everything loaded like it was ok but the program wouldn't open.
I am unable to get to http://www.superantispywar
Those wdmaud.sys are legit ones.
Did you renamed MalwareBytes BEFORE saving/downloading to your desktop?
Also fix this entry below: and delete the whole folder Antivirus 2009 but it probably won't go.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [5846719943642089718830335
Also check if TDSS rootkit is present.
Go to the Control Panel.
Select System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
Select View from the Menu, then "Show hidden Devices".
Expand "Non Plug and Play Drivers". ,
Right click on the TDSSserv.sys driver and select Properties, Stop and Disable it.
You will be asked to restart the computer, Select No.
You can also use another pc to dowload combofix and rename it before installing into the infected pc.
Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleep
You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply by pasting it in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Can you go to www.mozilla.org and download & install firefox? I've had people with problems like yours that were able to get the tools they wanted using Firefox browser, clean up their systems, then remove firefox and go back to ie. Others were happy to stay w/ Firefox.
Combofix deleted TDSSServ rootkit and its assciated files, has the google redirection persists?
How about the IE problem still the same?
Do you recognize all the programs under the Find3M report for the combofix log? I haven't check them yet.
At some stage did you also have a legit AutoRun.exe running in one of your USB drives?
