I forgot to mention I am using the latest version of AVG already (i.e 8.0)

Browse All TopicsHi since around middle of February 2008 I haven't been getting any updates lately, every time, I update from within the program I get "update finished successfully" and most importantly "No new update files are available".
This is worrying me as I used to get new update files every at least couple of days, now it has been 2 weeks at least since I got any. I am thinking of switching to another antivirus if this persist as I am concerned about the security of my computer owing to an outdated virus definition. So was wondering if this is just me or is there anyone else having the same problem, and if there is a solution please propose it. In the meantime I will use manual updates
Thanks in advance

I have read the messages and have a question for you, have you installed a new firewall on your system or have updated the firewall on your system?? It could be the problem as well.
Can you also make sure that automatic updates is actually on, because once i had a virus infection which turned off the AVG automatic update and i noticed it after a few days, when AVG complained about outdated virus definitions. It could be a virus issue or ISP issue as well.
Hope it helps.
Try re-installing AVG 8 on your computer, that might do the trick. This could also be a load issue on the AVG server with too many requests coming in for updates and server being busy at the specified times. Try setting a different time for the automatic updates and see if it works for you.

I upgraded to avg 8.0 a few months ago. My previous versions used to update every day if not every couple of days. Since upgrading to AVG 8.0 i have recieved less frequent upgrades so you are not alone with this.
o.com/uk/ and scan regularly as well as my AVG scan.
AVG will not update if for example you are on 7.5 you need to keep upgraded to the latest version to recieve the updates and currently 8.0 is the latest version. If you are worried about security i would re-install avg 8.0 taking only a few minutes but also use an External online scan program to make sure your virus software is not compromised i use http://housecall.trendmicr
