Looks like an old wareout variant, but you didn't mentioned any search redirects problem.

Can we look at a Hijackthis log please?

Download Hijackthis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download

Open Hijackthis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" don't fix anything yet.
Paste the log in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.

Also try scanning with MBAM or Combofix and show us the logs.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop, check for the tool's Updates before running a scan.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

If you can't access the above link then use this link and rename the file before saving to your desktop.
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply by pasting it in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Make sure you run Malwarebytes' and ComboFix as mentioned earlier and post their logs here also.

I had this dreamweaver thing a while back and I don't think that's the problem...

Should I remove those??

by: rpggamergirlPosted on 2009-03-07 at 05:06:49ID: 23824729

Is it a cracked copy of dreamweaver? If you had that file before and you know that it's okay, maybe MBAM just false positively flagging it.. You can also submit that file for an online virus check if you like at http://virusscan.jotti.org/

klko.exe & kxlko.exe are not showing in the logs, can you run Combofix and show us the log?

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-07 at 11:42:46ID: 23826211

warturtle,

I saw that link.
I checked the path and try to remove them  but it kept coming back.
It's really annoying that dos window pops up.

I will try to run the Combofix.

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-07 at 12:35:48ID: 23826406

Hmm... can you try booting in safe mode and then running antivirus scan on your PC? Press F8 when your PC is starting to boot up and select safe mode and then start your antivirus scan. Make sure that you have the latest definitions for your antivirus before doing it though.

by: greyknight17Posted on 2009-03-07 at 12:53:25ID: 23826478

dkim18, I recommend running ComboFix at this point as suggested earlier. It should be able to help you remove the infected files...or we can provide instructions on how to do it using that tool.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 14:45:43ID: 23851837

One of the machines I have is 2003 server and Combofix wouldn't run.
I ran it on the xp machine but it still didn't find it.
It is frustrating.
I ran symmantec and several different antivirus softwares.
I will try to paste the combofix log from another xp machine.
Thanks.

prevx.com software found two files but i don't know how to remove them.
The prevx is not free.
I am attaching the screen below.
It won't let me delete them.
One of them is black.exe.

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-10 at 15:45:00ID: 23852329

Hmm.. I have seen the screenshot and would advise you to scan the PC using Computer Associates virus scanner and Panda Antivirus scanner. Please only use Internet Explorer to scan your PC, because these websites use ActiveX to scan. It seems that not all antiviruses are capable of detecting this threat (as per google search results): PrevX, Panda Security and Computer Security seem to be the only companies able to detect this threat. Below are the relevant links:

http://www.ca.com/US/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/

Let us know, what you get.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 16:22:50ID: 23852610

thanks.
pandasecurity doesn't run on 2003 server.
ca.com wouldn't run for some reason. there is an error from the IE browser.

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-10 at 16:28:22ID: 23852645

Hmmm.. I wouldn't normally suggest this, but if you have the names of the files that the virus is contained within, could you search for their names within the registry and tell us the locations within registry where they are based? I am thinking about a manual fix for this, normally its upto anti-virus to handle them, but I have had to fix my previous PC manually sometimes.

If you open registry editor, search for 'black.exe' (which i believe is the first virus file) and after displaying and noting the first location, press F3 to allow to continue the search, until it says 'No more files found'. We can possibly find out the registry locations where its loading from and that might give us a hint of how to remove them. Please don't delete anything just yet.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 16:29:23ID: 23852655

on my 2003 server, I have IE 6.0 but ca scanner won't run.

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-10 at 16:30:34ID: 23852666

Actually, one more suggestion, try and do an online scan by Kaspersky scanner, see if it finds anything, normally it has the highest rates of detection of any anti-virus.

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-10 at 16:38:30ID: 23852715

Hmm... it might also be worth uploading the virus file (if its accessible) to www.virustotal.com which will scan it with 30 leading anti-viruses to tell you which one can detect it and possibly give you instructions on removal as well.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 17:03:00ID: 23852848

Ca.com spyware scanner found the black.exe and juzz.exe(I don't know if these are related  to kxlxko.exe)

There are two registries in HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/ACTIVE SETUP/INSTALLED Components/{67 ..
They belong to C:\RESTORE\K-1-343434-88888 and C:\RESTORE\K-1-4434343
THE registries tell those are from those two folders,C:\RESTORE\K-1-343434-88888\BLaCk.exe and
C:\RESTORE\K-1-4434343-888883434444\JUZZ.exe

So I removed the registries but I can't delete these two folders.

They are present as hidden folders and K-xxx files have recycle as icon and also hidden.
It won't let me delete them.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 17:04:36ID: 23852856

After the removal of those registries and rebooting, they came back!!

by: warturtlePosted on 2009-03-10 at 17:22:15ID: 23852945

See this for the description of how to make the hidden files visible:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfiles.mspx

You might have a rootkit that has installed itself and is importing trojans and spyware into your PC and hiding the files that are involved. Try a scan with the Rootkit remover (this will also work with Windows Server 2003):

http://www.sophos.com/products/free-tools/sophos-anti-rootkit.html

Also, try Spyware Doctor that is also one of the best rootkit removers out there. I am sorry, I am having to suggest a lot of alternatives to you, but the infection doesn't seem to be that common.

Hope it helps.

These are exact path.

By the way, thanks so  much for your time and expertises.

I can see the file but I don't see the name black.exe in tha recycle bin folder.
It is empty.

I can not even delete that H-6xxx xx folder.

This is the screenshot of what I am looking at.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 17:42:58ID: 23853021

Sorry for these frequent posts.

This is what I see
c:\RECYCLER\H-6-1-53-0976546321-090909032-8763-1337
c:\RESTORE\k-1-3542-4232123213-7676767-8888886
I don't see black.exe or juzz.exe in there.

dkim18, were you able to run ComboFix at all? After all this running around, I think it's time you give it a try now and post the log here when ready. If those files are showing up in the log file, we can remove them.

by: dkim18Posted on 2009-03-10 at 19:01:05ID: 23853394

I have two machines(2003 server and xp home)

Everytime, I clean out with the PREVX and reboot.
Rigt before, the windows let's me log in. I see a small window opens up and closes and I see words like C:\RECYCLER...etc.
So it seems that it is recreating every start up.

From the registry, I deleted the auto start of the entry.
But it seems to come back up.
How can I find this auto start to stop?
Thanks millions for everyone's help.

Hmm... you can try logging into safe mode and deleting everything within the c:\documents and settings\SAGE\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder as a start. That is where most of the infections seem to be resident, except for the trojan within the recycler. Secondly, my suggestion is to install a 15-day trial of ZoneAlarm Extreme Security (I know that you already have Symantec Endpoint installed right now) and update it and do a scan with that. Make sure that nothing else is running except for ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and Symantec Endpoint (I mean no other antivirus or firewall or security product).

Try that and let us know, how you get on.

dkim18, please follow the instructions provided by rpggamergirl. It should remove the main culprits that are wreaking havoc on your system. We can usually remove these malware using free tools...as you can see, not even paid tools can remove everything.

You might also want to try running the following tool to clear out all your temp folders:

Download ATF Cleaner at http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose Select All (unless you don't want it to delete your cookies, saved passwords or anything else...then you may leave them unchecked)
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use the Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose Select All (unless you don't want it to delete your cookies, saved passwords or anything else...then you may leave them unchecked)
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use the Opera browser click 'Opera' at the top and choose 'Select All' (unless you don't want it to delete your cookies, saved passwords or anything else...then you may leave them unchecked)
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Thanks everyone.

I think I got rid of them using the Combofix with therpggamergir's script.
I have to fix my 2003 server today but xp one looks clean.

I thank everyone for your time and support.
I don't know how to divide the points.

I bought two PREVX CSI licenses which they advertise it can clean out the black.exe. I should had waited one more day.

I will get back to you if I get to clean out my 2003 server.
Thanks again.

dkim18, you should see a button to accept multiple solutions. Click on the button and then the next page will allow you to assign the points.

Glad to know the XP system's problem has been resolved.

To uninstall Combofix:
Go to Start > Run and 'copy and paste' next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Thanks!
