Hi

Here's a discussion on the topic:

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/12/15/prevent-viruses-from-infecting-the-usb-flash-drive-or-pen-drive/

I'll search here at EE and bet back.

And ..

Here's a solution from EE to prevent a virus by scanning the USB upon insertion:

Always check the source of the drive, have a good antivirus, and check that it works on real time, it must check every time you put in a flash drive. in my experience AVG catches almost all incoming trash.

Hi,

1) Disable Windows Autoplay Feature

http://www.nirmaltv.com/2008/01/25/window-xp-tips-turn-off-autoplay/

2) When you want to access a USB drive, always scan first (right click and scan)

3) Or you can use USBVirusScan

http://blog.didierstevens.com/programs/usbvirusscan/

4) Use Ninja Pendisk

http://nunobrito.eu/ninja/

5) I always access the USB drive from CMD and use the following command:

F:\> dir /a:h

look for autorun.inf files or suspicious executables (.exe/ .dll/ .pif/ ...etc) and delete them by:

F:\> attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf
F:\> atttib -r -s -h virus.exe
F:\> del autorun.inf
F:\> del virus.exe

The USB is safe to open.

6) Use portable antivirus

Hi

You are probably wondering if you need both or what.  I would think that having the enterprise version on the machines would cover the USB drives also, but I want to find it in writing.  I'm looking for that part of it this afternoon.

Did you have something happen recently where a virus came in through a USB device?  If so, could you give some more details of the incident.

Hi

Take a look at this document:

http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=227988

in particular the suggestions made by Rmetzger.  I would at least implement the things recommended there for your environment.

Another question, at what point will you upgrade to the newer version?  I'm wondering if there are some more options there?
