Question

How do I Push client to workstations in Symantec Endpoint Protection

Asked by: calavera44

Hi all,
I have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed on my windows 2003 domain server.  I have pushed out the SEP client to about 8 machines.  They are running fine and updating as they should.  I just added another windows XP pro machine to the domain.  I can see it in the clients list on the server in SEP management console.

How do I push out the SEP client to this one computer.  I cannot see in the console where to do that.  Can you help me get the SEP client software installed on this one PC?

It's pretty simple utility that should have been installed when you installed SEP management server; when I get to work in the morning I'll provide you the quick low down if you haven't gotten the answer already but it's using the migration and deployment wizard mentioned in the link above. You should have a package built to deploy but other than that most likely the link will probably cover it. I'll check back in the AM after a couple of meetings are over with and check on you. If you have any other questions or issues after that one just put them up and I'll take care of them.

OK, from the SEP management console click on clients. At the bottom there is an option to search for unmanaged clients. Enter the IP address or DNS name of the new client you want to add. Select the installation package and settings and Group you want it assigned too and then hit the Start installation button on the right hand side. Thats it.

Otherwise you can use the deployment \ migration wizard but this is just as easy and all in the same interface.

It will even uninstall the old client and install the new one. I would make sure your SEP server is upgraded to at least MR4 to address some issues before pushing to any new clients if you arent already there.

Hi dstewartjr
Thanks for the link to the Symantec KB.  Turns out I  had actually done the push to the first 6 clients and  had the package ready to go.  I just did not remember how I did it!  I don't work a lot at that client or with  SEP.  So, it really helped me out to have you provide the solution.
Thanks,
John Allen
