I think this is a problem with power, maybe the USB devices are set to sleep when your PC is idle for a bit of time, you can check to make sure on device manager right click USB controllers and check the Power management for each USB controller if the system turns off this device automatically or not..
and for the tracing issue, you can use event viewer in the system section to view what windows logs of errors.
Click Start - and type on search eventvwr then press enter.

Now sure the is a log you can check but if you run all 3 of these programs they will reveal and Malware, Spyware, & viruses you may have.
