The hosts file was my first thought as well. If it is the hosts file it's an easy fix.
If the hosts file is clean you'll want to try an anti-root kit. I've used Sophos Anti-rootkit in the past successfully.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI was infected with a virus that looks like it was removed from Spybot Search and Destroy. Spybot removed the following problems:
fraud.virusremover2009
zlob.dnschanger.rtk
virtumonde
win32.agent.sd
win32.vb.atz
I think most everything has been removed, but I cannot access any websites. I can access a website with an IP address, but not with the domain name. I have ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns, reset the winsock. Still no luck. Any help is appreciated.
I'm running Windows XP SP3

Yeah, I checked the host files. All they had were 127. I ended up running SmitFraudFix, found a couple of things and cleaned them up, but it didn't fix it. Now I'm running ad-aware with the newest definitions and within just a few moments, it has found multiple entries. If you have any other ideas, let me know.
The system is probably still infected...DNS.Changer trojans may still be present.
There are also DNS.Changer trojans that infects routers... in those cases a router needs to be reset.
Do you have Hijackthis? run a scan and show us the log.
Also scan with Combofix( if it doesn't run, redownload and rename prior to saving the file)
Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleep
You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply by pasting it in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
I ran combofix last night from desktop in safe mode. Didn't fix it. The laptop I'm using right now is connected through the router. That tells me the router probably isn't infected. Here is a copy of my hijack this log after running Adaware and removing the entries. Here is the HijackThis log.

Could you rerun combofix in normal mode and attach its logfile as rpggamergirl (ID:25401019) suggested.
Also Kaspersky live cd is another good choice to use.
Kaspersky live cd http://devbuilds.kaspersky
Try those firstly :)
Just another thought here.....
So the only issue is DNS resolution? No other problems? May have something to do with this?
O23 - Service: DynDNS Updater Service (DynDNS_Updater_Service) - Kana Solution - C:\Program Files\DynDNS Updater\DynDNS.exe
Are you familiar with the program? If so maybe the settings were "borked" when the Malware was removed.
Thanks for your posts. I ended up reinstalling Windows XP. Kind of a pain in the arse, but now the computer is running super fast. I just need to get back some of the old files, scan the computer a few times with a couple of programs, etc.
Thanks again for your help. I'll split the points to those that posted.

Have you checked the Host file. I had the same problem and had to run Malwarebytes even after Spybot.
