I have tried to unistall the program, and it will not unistall completely. I have restored the system to a previous state, with no success at getting on the internet.
Is there a clean install tool for this program?

I suspect that when you finally remove SmartSecurity, you still will not have Internet access. I hope I am wrong.
If that works, though, you should reinstall SmartSecurity and see if everything works properly, unless, of course, you are using some other Internet security package for the rest of the network.
Let us know so we can help you further if you need it.
Folks
I tried the uninstall as described by smithsukumar, but got permission denied when I tried to delete the files in program files. I was logged in as administrator, and it did the same when logged in as user.
I can access the local network perfectly, just cannot go on line. Splait, you indicate you may suspect I will still not get on line - should I do a format and restore now?
Thanks
Everything seemed to be working just fine until October 22nd. explorer 8 has been installed for a while. The only reason that I suspected ESET was when I ran the investigation from the cannot display page, after reseting the network card, the program suggested it may be ESET blocking the internet. I disabled the Windows Firewall, with the same results. The network connections indicate there is internet accessability until you try go on line. then a red x appears in the line to the internet.
ESET is the only anti-virus program to be installed until now. After removeing ESET, I have installed Symantec End point because that is what is running on the network.
ESET could be reinstalled if it is better once I can gain access to the internet. I ran superantispyware. It can be removed if it is in the way
Thanks
Have you tried accessing shared folders on the server or performed any other local network access? In other words, have you verified you have local access, or are you just going by the indicators?
If you don't have local access, it might be your network card or the Ethernet cable connecting you to the network.
If you DO have access locally, I will have to do more research on your issue.
Hi Wilf,
Did you get Eset uninstalled through the link I provided?
Also,
Could you run autoruns (dont make any changes within autoruns)
Autoruns http://technet.microsoft.c
Within Autoruns, select the file tab and select save(Ctrl+S)
Upload that file(autoruns.arn) to http://www.ee-stuff.com/Ex
Also, if you don't have local access, you might try rebuilding winsock by downloading the tool here:
http://www.softpedia.com/g
Let us know!
Try running this
ftp://ftp.symantec.com
Please report back.
Best
Mike

He isn't having a problem with Norton, and until a few hours ago, the PC had only ever run ESET. Once ESET was removed, Norton Endpoint was installed. He doesn't need to remove that.
An aside - This issue is one thing I really dislike about Vista. The network and Internet connection stuff is arcane and hard to diagnose properly. In addition, it might for a while, then not work, especially with wireless connections.
Have you tried running Norton Removal Tool??
Either you had Norton or not that is the best way to repair any internet connection problems.
Have you tried it?? Try and report please.
ftp://ftp.symantec.

I don't believe rebuilding will help. Have you tried ANY of the suggestions made above? What Informer9 and I are saying is that the utilities we recommended you try can restore access, even if it doesn't look like they can.
If you aren't going to try our recommendations and report back, we can't help you.
Splait,
Since Norton was not on before, do you see an advantage to running the removal? I can access all of the local drives. When I go to network connections, I have a green line between my computer and the local network, but as soon as I try either go on line, or ping www.sony.com from a command prompt, the green line to the internet gets a red x in it, and I can neither ping, nor go on line. there are 14 other workstations running vista business on the network and they all work fine.
I will run the various Norton removal tools and try firefox. If rebuilding will not help, would you think this could be a hardware issue?
Thanks
Folks,
I ran the winsock repair - same results - from network and sharing centre starts out with both green lines, red x appears on interenet side
I ran the norton removal tool - it could not remove endpoint, so I unistalled end point, then ran the Norton removal tool. Same results
I installed firefox, and the same results.
Should I try the autoruns from optoma
Thanks for your continued patience and interest in this project. I am going to quit for the night, and probably restore the system tomorrow night unless there are other things that you can think of that I can do
Folks,
I have restored the sytem to the factory default, and I still have the same issue. There are no updates on it. It came with a version of Norton and I have uninstalled that.
Any thoughts at all on this. The server is Windows 2008, the firewall appliance is a watchguard.
All of the other workstations are normal and access the internet.
Folks,
I have taken the workstation to my home and at first it would not connect. I let witndows do a repair to the connection, and it works fine. I can go on line with no problems. I chose home and not work for network location.
I will take it back in about 14 hours to see what happens when it lives in its own netwok environment.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
The access is open, that is there are no restrictions. The unit worked flawlesly from July until now. It was just assigned a DHCP address, so I reserved an address for it, and it made no difference. I will take it back tonight and see what happens. I will keep you posted.
Next question - all have helped and put effort into this. How do you want the points divided?
Thanks
We aren't done. Points should be distributed based on who gave you the correct answers and who assisted with finding the actual solution. If you feel that more than one person helped, or you want to reward us all, give the most points to whoever came closest to the answer and divide the rest evenly or graduate points by ranking our help.
It ain't up to us, it's your call.
For me, I just want to make sure you get your problem solved and you share the answer so we can all learn from it!
Folks,
It looks like I have been tripping over 20 dollar bills to pick up pennies. All of the computers with IP addresses reserved and at the low end of the scale [5 thorugh 22] worked. The DHCP on the server issues addresses from 101 and upwards should someone not on the regular network attach.
The network has a cable modem for internet source. The router is a watchguard appliance. The server is connect to a port on the router. There are two switches that distribute connectivity to the main part of the building. I rebooted the server first and had no difference. I deleted all of the leases, and again nothing. I powered off the power bar that feeds the router and both switches, powered back on and the network seems to be working fine now.
Logic would indicate that I need to look into the watchguard appliance because as someone pointed out earlier [and I did not listen well enough] the problem may lie in those areas.] If it was the server, then I should not have had access to the local network.
Thanks to all of you for your persistence in this.
This is the second time in two days where, had I asked the right questions in the beginning, we could have saved a lot of grief.
Experts -
We need to ask about infrastructure as early as possible on these pages, especially when we discover the original question is not the issue!
Wilf -
Congratulations on solving your problem! I just wish we could have gotten to the root of this much sooner! Please don't take my words as a condemnation of yourself. It's me I'm kicking.
Folks,
I have tried to award points that I hope will be received as being fair. My take away from this session is that I owe you guys a deep debt of gratitude for sticking with me. Had I asked the correct question at first instead of framing it around the message that the Vista repair connection gave. If I had answered thoroughly and promptly, Splait would have commented sooner.
Thanks again

Did you follow the same steps which as shown below
Click Start ’ Programs ’ ESET ’ Uninstall. After you uninstall, you will need to restart your computer.

After restarting, confirm that you can see hidden files and folders by clicking Start ’ Control Panel ’ Folder Options ’ View and select the Show hidden files and folders option.
Click Start ’ My Computer and then navigate to and delete the following folders:
C:\Program Files\ESET
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET

Windows Vista Users must delete the following folders:
