Rtvscan.exe Symantec runtime error

I running Symantec Client Security v3.1 on a 2003 server and about 10 workstations. On one of the workstations I started receiving the following error:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
          Program: ... \Symantec Client Security\Symantec Antivirus\Rtvscan.exe

    This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

It appears at boot up multiple times and periodically during normal operation

Have you tried installing the latest version of SCS?  I know that there were several bugs in previous versions that cause errors like that.

I am getting the same error on an XP servicepack 2 and all WIN security packs installed, workstation that has Symantec Antivirus ver: 10.1.5.5000 (was the most current until 2 weeks ago). I'm also running the newest version of Spyware Doctor V5.0. The error did not start appearing until I upgraded the Symantec to the new version. I have also tried uninstall/reinstall of SAV. My next steps will be to try and revert back to the previous versions of both products to see if that fixes the runtime exception error.

It sounds like it might be a support issue that you are going to need to take up with Symantec support.

I would just like to add that I have also had the same problem when running SAV10.1.5 and Spyware Doctor 5.0 - I uninstalled Spyware Doctor 5.0 and now I don't get the errors. Might be insteresting to note that SD5.0 has Antivirus Support which the previous did not. I would like to find a solution for the two to coexist..
