I am running SBS 2003 Standard Edition R2 and have decided to change from SAV to a different antiviral program. Here are the ones I looked at and what I didn't like about them. Maybe you can help me look at them differently.
NOD32 -- Heard a lot of good things about it. It seems very good and complete from what I have read. I installed it to the server. Install was not that difficult, but the setup wasn't very intuitive. I couldn't figure out how to push the clients or install them; basically I couldn't find them. Do I have to purchase them separately? And, it seemed like the Microsoft Exchange module was separate as well.
Trend Micro -- Also heard a lot of good things about this one. Seems to be a favorite among SBS 2003 IT people. I wanted to like it. The install took awhile as I read through the paperwork, but if I did it again, I would probably breeze right through it the second time. Two things about it: First (and probably a dumb reason to not like it), but the client program just seemed very untechnical compared with the overall program. It also has the real time scan which is scanning all the time, which I have no idea what it is doing.
CA -- Again, looks good. Terrible website. I could not find a trial version on it and, for > $1200, I need a trial version.
AVG -- I haven't looked at the server version. I have tried the regular non-server version, and it is very effective. I have no idea why, but the scanner seems to run when it wants no matter when I schedule it. It seems to take up a lot of resources when it is running.
Symantec and McAfee not really big on.
Still leaning toward Trend Micro and NOD32, but both have the real time scanning thing that I guess I don't understand.
