Can't even boot into safe mode

I have an ibm laptop that has become infected with an unknown bug(s) which hijacked the IE.  I have Kaspersky internet security on there and it will scan when asked.  On the first scan it found something called ihelper.exe and removed it.  It only found that problem.  I tried to boot into safe mode (xp pro service pack 3) and only got as far as the black screen where it says safemode in the corners, no request for login, just frozen there. (I was going to run kaspersky in safe mode).

 I attempted to put on some of my usual best friends, spybot search and destroy, superantispyware, and hijack this but found my CDRom drive was not being recognized.  I was able to add these programs to the laptop with a thumb drive but none of them would install correctly.   The hijack this installer just hour glassed out on me.  Superantispyware was giving a runtime error on the installer (I checked the program and bit count with a version on another machine that worked fine and they matched).  Spybot s&d installed but would not update or run at all.  It would put its resident program on the systray but that would not activate the main program.  So bottom line I can't run any antispyware programs and can't boot into safe mode.  I did finally just take an already extracted hijack this program off another computer and was able to run it from the thumb drive to come up with this hijack log.  Please help me sort this out!
