Proxy Settings from Group policy to IE 7

Dear All

Currently Im facing problem in IE7 because its not taking proxy settings from group policy I already download the latest .ADM from Microsoft but I cant find the suitable place to set the proxy setting so can anyone help me on this.

Hi!

IE7 sets proxy settings per machine not per user.

"Standard users can not change proxy settings after Internet Explorer 7 installation."

thanks for you replay i checked the link but i can't find the location were i can set my proxy settings there
is no place in the following place

In order to resolve this issue you must disable the following Local Computer Policy setting - Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user). You must set this policy setting to disabled even if Group Policy console (gpedit.msc) shows this as Not Configured.

please advice.

do you have it set at domain level GPO or those of ISA if you have it?

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. You opened new group policy object and you can't find Computer and/or User configuration settings? Can you post a screenshoot?

for more details

the policy not domain level GPO it's connected to 6 OU in my domain i configure this to use proxy settings
it's working fine with IE6 but i'm facing problems in IE7 i download .ADM from microsoft and add it successfuly
to the same policy but i can't find the place to add the proxy settings in the new .ADM settings so i need the correct
place to add the proxy settings in IE7.

Proxy settings are in User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection\Proxy Settings

fine I already configure proxy settings from ( User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection\Proxy Settings) but this one for IE6 and IE7 or only IE 6 because after adding .ADM for IE 7 i can't find place to modify proxy settings for IE7

Hi i found were to change and disable the settinges
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user).

but any one can explaing what it will effect in case of disable as microsoft explain in this article:

and did any one try and test it.

This settings is for both IE6 and IE7 but will not apply to IE7 users unless you change Computer configuration setting from posted KB article. IE7 adm template settings are used for other IE7 settings.

In short, information from KB article explains that in order to have working IE7 proxy setting, you have to change how proxy settings are applied. When you disable setting from KB article, IE7 proxy settings work as IE6.

Is there any other place where to put proxy (address and port) other than:
User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection\Proxy Settings

Reason is I don't like the "Internet Explorer Branding" effect.  It's slowing down the logon process.

Hi,

I ran through similar problems in the past; there are some tricky parts applying IE setting via GPO, like the preference mode for instance.

One other thing that I find bothering is that once your proxy settings are applied and you need later to set another proxy, you have to create a new policy. (changing the existing one will not apply the changes on the client profile).

Or maybe I missed something here?
