With the correct terminology I found what I was looking for.

Browse All TopicsI really need to be able to encrypt with the private key in my certificate that I have obtained. Then the message would go out in to the wild and to validate it came from the correct person it would be decrypted by my public key.
But I am having a hard time acheiving this this the windows crypto api.

Not sure what you have written, what you are trying to do speicifically, etc. but...

You are looking for how to do a Signing operation.
You need to make sure you have the correct type of certificate for the type of signing you are trying to do - there are many different types such as "Code Signing", "Adobe Document Signing", "Document Signing", "Email Signing", and such.
