Internet Security : ET Drop Known Bot C&C : malware trojan firewall

Hi,

203.CCC.CCC.CCC is our HA firewall's address & it can't be
virus/malware scanned (it's an appliance firewall).

We received the following security alert.  Kindly advise
what's the action to take as scanning is not feasible.

What's the destination address 205.BBB.BBB.BBB??
Can I put a firewall rule to block this site?

THREAT ANALYSIS
We have noticed traffic from source to the target, 205.BBB.BBB.BBB, which is associated to a Botnet Command & Control Server and is also known to be serving exploits.

Botnet refer to a collection of infected computers running software, usually installed via Trojan, worms or backdoors, under a common command and control infrastructure.
The botnet server can control the group remotely commonly through IRC as the command and control takes place via IRC server or a specific channel on a public IRC network.
Bot are spread by exploiting known vulnerabilities.

IMPACT ANALYSIS
The infected machine can be used to send spam email, perform DDoS and spreading of Trojan.
Keylogger program may also be installed which can leads to identity theft or disclosure of sensitive information within its network.

RECOMMENDATION
Kindly scan the above mentioned machines for any malware infections.
Update your anti-virus software with the latest definitions as most of these bots can be captured by anti-virus software. Tags:

What do you mean with 'Scanning is not feasible'? What kind of machine is this?
That machine needs to be scanned with good and preferable several antimalware products.
If they do not find the infection - which is very possible - and can not clean it, then that machine needs to be reinstalled.
And you'll need to find out how it got infected and tighten your security measures to prevent further infection.

Suggest to ignore the possibility it's infected but to analyse the portion below the
======== line : that's what the security team gave me.

Not likely it's infected due to the fact that it's an appliance firewall

Mmmm, I think that something behind the firewall is infected. And the firewall is showing up as the source, since it is the gateway.

Scan PC's and servers with antimalware to find the infected one(s).
