Question

I Need to Sue One of the Websites for Invading My Privacy - Help

Asked by: F-J-K

Several months ago i found this web site "ce - rti  : fyd .. um ! ps" and was interested to buy a study guide of one of the exams just to confirm what i have learned during the few months. Here is the problem, i joined, i paid via paypal, i got the materials but it wasn't what i wanted! They claimed the practice exam engine comes with a Study Guide in PDF. I found the study exam practice engine but i didn't find the Study Guide which is what i mainly wanted to have.

I disputed the transaction via paypal, but nothing really helped. I called the bank to dispute the payment and ask for full charge back. Later within 2 months, which is today, i got a letter from the bank saying the case is closed to his favor since  the seller reacted and sent documentation that i had such as the full login info, receipt, etc.

Here is the deal, the bank sent me a letter with all the documentation that the seller faxed them. What a shock! The first paper had my Username and *Password*. The password in plain text! So it's been exposed by the seller. In addition, it's been sent via fax to the bank. The bank employees saw my password surely! So my password was all over! The password means alot to me because it can give them access to some of other more serious accounts.

I'm really offended, is there any Web Police or similar services?! The seller is the one to blame, i believe a password should not be seen by anyone. No one ever can know the password except the owner. Web moderators or admins user different means to access the user's account because no one knows the password except the owner! Therefore,"ce - rti  : fyd .. um ! ps" moderators , in some way or another, steal people passwords and they have the potential/chances of using it against other owner accounts such as the email associated with one username or so.

Again, guide me please! What should i do? I'm very annoyed, i got out of it safely, surely others don't and probably won't since they are not aware of it yet.

"ce - rti  : fyd .. um ! ps" i did it that way not for the SEO to catch it.

Regards,
F-J-K

you can whois the website and know which country it is hosted in.. .and owned by whom... .i guess you have to sue them in their country... that's one point...

now another point... is dealing with a dump site legal at all?? i remember Microsoft has sued Testking and won in 2007 for copyright violation..
where do we stand morally or legally when we are buying illegal material (copyright infringed)?

"now another point... is dealing with a dump site legal at all?? i remember Microsoft has sued Testking and won in 2007 for copyright violation..where do we stand morally or legally when we are buying illegal material (copyright infringed)? "

Why is it illegal? Isn't it just questions and answers made up for practicing purposes? If i read 100 dumps while i don't study the material and have no hands-on experience, i won't really learn anything nor pass the exam. It is only useful for those who studied the field and want to have more questions than the text book exercises. To my knowledge extent, dumps has no relation to the real exam in anyway! Please fix me if i'm wrong...

by: aiklamhaPosted on 2009-10-30 at 06:37:23ID: 25702781

dumps sites started when people who attended the tests started sharing the contents of examinations.. thats why this is called brain dumps.. when it started getting profitable... people took tests just to copy the contents.... then with the involvement of local testing centers.. this thing spread.. anyways.. testking as i know it... has latest contents... as they come in the real exam.. it is word by word the same...

Now for passing the exam.. i have seen people.. who read nothing.. have no hands on experience and they will just memorize (yes memorize) dumps and pass the exam with as good as 98-100% score... :)

Whew, this is a huge issue. No wonder why i see the "Guarantee", i thought its only a scam to encourage people buy their materials. I just googled testking, their website is up! Now what's up with that? Didn't MS sue them? How come we such activities are let free as if it was totally legal? Are those who get certs by cheating think they will get into the job! The interview will tells it all....Questions go on....

Let's back to out topic, this illegal website violated my password and many other passwords.

Is it something normal for Web Moderators/Admin to have the client password as is?

by: aiklamhaPosted on 2009-10-30 at 07:37:03ID: 25703365

There a lot of loop holes in laws governing electronic data sharing .. i guess TestKing takes advantage of that... for example.. who doesn't know that the torrents or any P2P site violate copyright as it has never been violated before... but they are also up and running... you get warning from your ISP if you use them though :P

Coming back to your point... Read their terms and conditions and/or privacy statement.. if they claimed that they will never share your password and other information with anyone ... you can use that to sue them. but again.. that depends on which country the website is hosted in..
