How do I troubleshoot a Dell Ispiron 6400 laptop which will not resume after hibernation?

Not long after I installed the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 my laptop refused to resume after you close the cover on the laptop.  I have updated the drivers and checked the Power management settings.  My Device Drivers appear to by up to date.  What do I do?

Try uninstalling the mouse driver to confirm it is the issue.

Sorry!  I had a major system crash (MY Main Desktop with all my work) and could not come back.  I just got this thing back to where I could think about my laptop.  The other had a 150 Gb drive die two weeks ago.  I am still not completely settled back in.  Too many settings.

I have tried uninstalling the drivers, looking for new ones, etc.  It seems to be something about my laptop configuration.  My wife and my son use the same Mouse on their laptops and get good results.  Min is a Dell Latitude 6400.  My son uses a HP and my wife a Gateway.  I have more things on mine but we wont go there.

The laptop continues to NOT come back to life if I allow it to go to Standby/Hibernation mode or I close the cover.  Either way, "Good bye!"  It is history.  I have to reset the machine.
I would say just delete it.
I am going to ask that the moderator delete this question.  I did not get a satisfactory answer.  It was more than I can attend to at this point.  I had done the obvious things that were suggested before I came here.  IE. Rollback, uninstall drivers and reinstall them.  It seemed to be something deeper missing.
