Thank you so much! Appreciate it.

Hopefully they'll work! :)

The client gave me an actual DVD of a trailer she wants so it is in DVD format. I got it sent to me in a folder containing all of the DVD contents, in the format:

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB

Merete, thanks again for those links, big help, nice to get familar with some more programs.

Is there a way to make it work with those files from the DVD?

Ryan
Update:

I took all of those files i listed, dragged them in to iSquint started converting and one came out that worked and its perfect!

Thanks again!
fred,

let me just say that:

Is there any particular reason why you want to use AVI files? Besides being a great container for DV or miniDV files that are captured from camcorders etc AVI has been taken over by MPEG-2 and now MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. As DVD files are already encoded MPEG-2 files in VOB format there's little point in encoding them into the larger AVI file format if you just want to store them on a HDD for ease of playing.
H.264 will do this beautifully using half the storage space and transmission bandwidth of even MPEG-2.

I never knew that, that is interesting. I am glad you wrote that, learned something interesting. about the DVD format, not the AVI, that I knew being a video editer, I did mean MOV the quicktime format, that was my mistake.

you're wellcome thank you, especially if they are free makes it easier to test out rather than trial versions you never know if and what they are really capable of.
cheers
Merete
I've been out constructing a vermin-proof fence -- have lot's of advice on that if required. Hey Merete, I don't know how to make it cane toad proof, but the little varmints haven't got this far south yet.
Nice to see you're making progress catonacouch -- a cat on the couch does sound more cosy than one on a hot tin roof.
Actually Quicktime mov files are now encoded using the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec that I mentioned.
Both MP4 files and Mov files will play in the quicktime player. But you can't just change the extension of an MP4 to mov as they're processed differently. Nero also uses H.264 but they call it Nero Digital -- and those will also play in quicktime.
Of the files that you listed the actual MPEG-2 videos are in the VOB files, the IFO files contain all the InFOrmation about chapters, and subtitles etc.. BUP files are just backs of the IFO files.
Just be careful when encoding to mov files that you don't use any 'old' encoder because the old mov files were encoded with the old MPEG-4 Part 2 codec which is really a very inefficient codec when compared to H.264, which is Part 10.

fredshovel with the Cane toads have news for you,
watch the map shows the growth patten oops looks like they have migrated to your regeon 1955
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cane_Toad
"A CANE toad found in a suburban Melbourne garden may have hitched a ride south in a box of fruit and veg...DSE exotic wildlife officer Keith Larner said the toad most likely hitched a ride on a truck as Ms Milkins' house was very close to loading bays servicing the shopping centre."

Hey Merete, that's why if I see cane toads hitch hiking I never give them a ride.
lol
Awe i just have to show you this, it's originally from CGnetworks, where I am a membr great site, they  submitted this animation in a contest and am happy to see it make it to youtube now

enjoy

Yes, it's excellent. A touch of Barry Humpries (Sir Les Patterson), but nothing wrong with that. But still another reminder of how our home-grown Oz sub-culture can be one of the funniest in the world -- but our film and tv industry has its head stuck so far up its bum it doesn't realise it (apologies to Dazza the Cane Toad for stealling some of his great dialogue).
...and since we're hijacking Ryan's question (sorry about that). Big W has got Russell Coight's Celebrity Challenge on DVD for $12.95, if you need to remember what a real belly laugh feels like.
Hahah, no worries, this is entertaining listening.

Learning about toads and how they get here.
LMAO.  Ryan the true story behind the Cane toads and how they got into Australia is the fault of the Cairns City Council, there was a sugar cane beetle they couldnt kill so they imported the cane toads carefully breeded them in a animal and wildlife place  then released them into the sugar cane fileds never realizing that cane toads eat and screw anything even if its dead.
Love Dazza he kind of represents the australian humourous  al la natural laid back side, that animation won an award by the way.
Russell Coight's Celebrity Challenge on DVD for $12.95<< sorry never heard of him. ( females) :D
okay that was fun better stop now.
Cheers
God now I'm learning too. I originally thought the Cane Toads were a rock group that came out here to compete with The Beatles. It just goes to show how a story can get twisted.
ahahha what a connection. Cane toads ate everything but that cane beatle, from Hawai they are and grow as big as a small dog

now scientists only hope is to spread a anorher bug cane toads will eat  that  ingests a worm supposed to kill them.
can't say ozzies arent opportunists now you can buy >>  Cane toad alcohole.. <<<ahahaha like Fugu Japanese Blow Fish..

The Best software is allok DVD to AVI maker Try that.
manishksingh97
I think your 'Allok'  is actually AVI to DVD maker -- not DVD to AVI maker. You should post the link if you are thinking of something elst.
But the fact remains. There is absolutely no reason to convert a DVD to an AVI file.
