The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Deploy ASA 5510 from Sonicwall 2040 settings

Asked by pstiffsae in Enterprise Firewalls

We currently have a Sonicwall 2040 Firewall that we are upgrading to a Cisco ASA 5510. Sonicwall Settings are all working and working well, we just sought to upgrade the device to take advantage more of the SPAM/Virus control settings instead of software options on the server (GFI).

I am at the part where I'm changing 0/0 and 0/1 (outside and inside)

I'm assuming for outside, I'll need to get off the existing firewall external IP, DNS servers, anything else I'm missing?

Setting up inside is a little trickier. On the Sonicwall LAN properties, we have the Sonicwall LAN IP address as 192.168.0.254 and Lan Subnet as 255.255.255.0. I believe the firewall defaults to 192.168.1.X, right? I'll need to change this, correct?

I have:
"A unique hostname to identify the adaptive security appliance on your network.
"The domain name.
"The IP addresses of your outside interface (but confused about inside interface)
"IP addresses for hosts that should have administrative access to this device using HTTPS for ASDM, SSH, or Telnet.
"The privileged mode password for administrative access.
"The IP addresses to use for NAT or PAT address translation, if any.
"The IP address range for the DHCP server.
"The IP address for the WINS server.
"Static routes to be configured.

Any help is really appreciated. I have good expierence with Sonicwall but I'm trying to translate it over to Cicsco now.
