The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Pure XSLT Date Formatting

Tags: date, xslt, format
I was wondering if there is a way to format dates with a pure XSLT solution?

Take for example yahoo's rss feed using the date as : Thu, 08 Jan 2004 14:01:20 GMT

I need to change that into something smaller...

If this is possible could you please show examples for serveral differnt formats

ie 1/8/04  01.08.04   Jan 8 2004

Thanks

Can you be more specific? I want to do the same thing but am totally new to xml. I want to display the date formatted like Wednesday, August 31, 2005 or just August 31, 2005.

Here is what I have so far:

<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="xml" encoding="iso-8859-1" omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="*">
<table border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr><td valign="top">

    <xsl:for-each select="//*[local-name()='item']">
  • <a>
    <xsl:attribute name="href">
    <xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='link']"/>
    </xsl:attribute>
    <xsl:attribute name="target">
    <xsl:text>top</xsl:text>
    </xsl:attribute>
    <xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='title']" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>
    </a>

    <xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='description']" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>...

  • </xsl:for-each>
</td></tr>
</table>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

This works great for diplaying the title and description but I need the date [pubDate] above the title formatted correctly. Don't have a clue how to use the template submitted earlier. Any help is much appreciated.

I am using ASP to call the source file:

Sub getXML(sourceFile)
     dim styleFile
     dim source, style
     styleFile = Server.MapPath("news/news.xsl")

     set source = Server.CreateObject("Msxml2.DomDocument")
     source.async = false
     source.setProperty "ServerHTTPRequest", true
     source.load CStr(sourceFile)

     set style = Server.CreateObject("Msxml2.DomDocument")
     style.async = false
     style.load styleFile

     source.transformNodeToObject style, Response
     set source = nothing
     set style = nothing
End Sub

getXML("http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rss?p=arizona+real+estate&ei=UTF-8&fl=0&x=wrt")

Thanks,
Christina

Yury,

Your example works great, however, when I try and substitute:

<xsl:variable name="d">Thu, 08 Jan 2004 14:01:20 GMT</xsl:variable>

for

<xsl:variable name="d" select="pubDate"/>

It returns:

Ju//p

I'm sure it's quite simple - just can't figure it out!

Cheers,

Ben.
