have you shut down any services on the local or destination machines?

maybe rpc has been disabled, or maybe there is some firewall between you and the server that stops you from accessing the rpc ports? (139 i think)

cheers.

PWS is listed a process running in task manager, if I click PWS again then another copy runs in task manager but PWS interface does not display.

There is a problem with iis, I can't stop iisadmin, so the removal process doesn't work either.

I resolved the problem by removing and reinstalling IIS. But first I had to boot in Safe mode and rename (could have deleted) the folder C:\WINNT\system32\inetsrv . This folder was then obviously replaced when IIS was reinstalled. There must be a file in the inetsrv folder which is hanging, because when I tried renaming the folder under normal mode it said access denied.

Having apparently solved the problem, it has quickly reoccured when I tried to stop the service in PWS (there were instances of IE open at the time).

Ref to similar problem: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20914713/Internet-Information-Manager-won't-open.html

My setup is:
Win2k SP4 networked in a workgroup to a Win2k server
Visual Studio
Zone Alarm
Grisoft Anti-virus

An article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;185382 lists the services which require stopping using eg net stop from the command line:

w3svc      World Wide Web Publishing Service
      iisadmin   IIS Admin Service
      msftpsvc   FTP Publishing Service
      cisvc      Content Index
      smtpsvc    Microsoft SMTP Service

cisvc is already stopped.  The other services could not be stopped. If I try and end task Inetinfo.exe in Task Manager it says access denied.

Finally managed to remove and reinstall IIS, but now when I open IISAdmin it says the system can not find the path specified. If I click start in PWS it says there was an unexpected error using the Metabase Error = 3

I've uninstalled Zone Alarm but there are still problems with IIS, IIS Manager will open but an error says: "Error connecting to <computername>: The system cannot find the path specified"
I am having a similar problem and noticed IIS was running in my process list and "servUdaemon" My past experiance is that this is some sort of worm process. I am checking that now. I hope this leads to a resolution for me and you.
