Question

Frontpage navigation bars wrong labels

Asked by: deanind

Frontpage 2003 web site started with 40 pages added 100 pages to a single navigation bar product line. Everything works perfect in Frontpage but when a browser accesses the new pages, most of the labels are incorrect. The navigation links are pointing to the correct pages. I have run Recalculate Hyperlinks several times.

The web site is being run locally prior to uploading to the www. The existing 40 pages are working just fine in the browser - only child deep.. The new 100 new pages go several child levels. The web site has gone from about 650 Mb to 750 Mb.

Did you use a theme to create this website ?

Have you tried View > Navigation
And changed the labels from there ? (Give 3 single clicks on a navigation ......... Or right click and select properties)

Make sure the site is listed properly in the navigation view of the web site.  Drag and drop the pages as needed in the new scheme.  This should fix the problem.

Just to clarify, the image shows the FP tabs on the left and IE tabs on hte right. Both are lined up correctly, only one tab 'Fluid Handling' is displaying correctly in IE. The links within the tabs are working correctly. In looking at navigation, the labels are correct same as the FP tabs in the image. As to the site lsited properly in navigation, not sure how to drop and drag pages for the new scheme. They seem to be pointing in the correct order.

I noticed in _derived, the gif labels were duplicates of 'Trico Mfg' for the offending tabs (see above on the left image). What does does not make sense are all the labels in FP display correctly but not with the new additions in IE. The wrong labels are only in the new unpublished work. I am using IE to browse the pages locally. I do not have FP extensions locally, could this have an effect on what I am seeing? I can publish to a test subpage on our web site to see if this migate the problem. The total size is 740Mb so it wll take some time to upload via DSL.

It would probably be better to scrap every navigation button you have and start again. This is NOT a drastic step and it will not take long  the things operating normally.

Make sure that the "Folder List" is open on the left of your screen (View Menu ... or ... Alt F1)
And the navigation view on the right (Right click on it and select Portrait Or Landscape (I much prefer Portrait, especially for vertical Menus)

Expand folders where necessary and drag your files from the left screen to the navigation panel. Start with your home page and keep buttons that you want visible on the home on the same level as the home page (there will be no lines between these buttons). If you want sub pages off a particular button, just drag files to the right of the button and a line(s) appear between them.

                |----- Button
BUTTON ---|
                |----- Button
                |
                |------ Button

You can sort the order of your buttons here by dragging them up and down.
You can label them as I mentioned in an earlier post.

I was able to delete those links with wrong button labels and re-link via navigation with all the children. It worked, I was able to see the correct buttons in the browser.

Thank You for the assitance, great job.
