how do i free up more space on my laptop

after i down load a file it only down load 99% and stop . it wont finish the process.  Please help

Start by emptying your recycle bin.  Also remove all temporary files for your browser.

You can also try running this as a batch file to clear out all manner of junk.

At that point it tries to copy the file from the temporary internet files to the final destination.  I agree that clearing those files would be the first step to try.  You could also try (at least temporarily) installing another browser such as Firefox which has it's own method for saving and opening downloads.  Also an antivirus program could be blocking the file once it's downloaded.

If you're really desperate for space you can remove the  $NtUninstall folders from C:\Windows. These are uninstallers for windows updates.

If you do go that route, I'd leave the last three months of them in case something has gone wrong with an update - rare, but it happens.
