The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't put in <br / >tag  in wordpress post

I have a wordpress blog and when I try to put in <br /> tags wordpress removes them.

I have tried various plugins to help me put in raw html but none has worked.

I read that if I removed the visual editor, I could have br tags but the problem is there are people working on this blog who need the visual editor as they don't know html.

Here is an example of how wordpress changes my code

I put this in on a links / resources page I have:

here is my code I insert using the html button to insert source code in TinyMCE

The Centers for Disease Control<br />
  <a href="http://www.cdc.gov">http://www.cdc.gov</a><br />
  <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp">http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp</a>
  <br />
  <br />
  The March of Dimes<br />
  <a href="http://www.marchofdimes.com">http://www.marchofdimes.com</a><br />

Wordpress changes the code to this:

The Centers for Disease Control   <a href="http://www.cdc.gov">http://www.cdc.gov</a>   <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp">http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp</a>         The March of Dimes   <a href="http://www.marchofdimes.com">http://www.marchofdimes.com</a>

Note that all br tags have been removed.  I could use P tags that then that would give me too much space.  I am using Wordpress 2.3.1

You should read this:
http://codex.wordpress.org/How_WordPress_Processes_Post_Content
And further investigation suggests you're not alone:
http://wordpress.org/extend/ideas/topic.php?id=11

Though WordPress recommends against tinkering with the source, take a look at your copy of this file: http://wordpress.taragana.net/nav.html?wp-includes/formatting.php.source.html
and try commenting out line 51, which strips
 tags.

wow, evidently this is a big issue!!

That puts me on the right track. thank you.

One thing I did as a workaround was install FCKeditor as the default and that lets me put in br tags. So it seems it may have more to do with tinyMCE as proven by the core files that need hacking which are part of TinyMCE.
