Question

where the wordpress database mysql should be installed

Asked by: mtzsw

I have downloaded the WAMP Server which includes the APACHE server, PHP, MySQL, PHP admin, then I FTP my wordpress website and put all of the files in the www folder of the WAMP.

Now, I would like to download the complete database from GoDaddy and put it somewhere. However, I am unsure of the procedures of
downloading the database and connecting it to wordpress.

I read that I should use PhpAdmin but I don't have experience with it. Any recommendation.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Thank you.

you need to login to godaddy and try to manage your database from there. after you found phpmyadmin linked to your GoDaddy account you can export any database and save it to your computer. Then you will need to import the sql file you got from GoDaddy to your local mysql via phpmyadmin provided by wampserver.

Here are step by step instructions using PHPMyAdmin to backup your wordpress database.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database

Found these instructions for GoDaddy

Once logged in to your GoDaddy account, follow these steps to locate your PHPMyAdmin interface.

  • My Account
  • Hosting
  • Manage Account
  • Databases
  • Under Action header, on the far right-side of the Database Name, select the button that reads, Open Manager
  • Open Manager is the PHPMyAdmin feature

Hello

I did follow the following instructions:

Found these instructions for GoDaddy

Once logged in to your GoDaddy account, follow these steps to locate your PHPMyAdmin interface.

    * My Account
    * Hosting
    * Manage Account
    * Databases
    * Under Action header, on the far right-side of the Database Name, select the button that reads, Open Manager
    * Open Manager is the PHPMyAdmin feature

I also follow the instruction in reference of exporting the database as in this link http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database

Will when I export it the database did not exported as a zip file but I choose the none options
once I competed the import part still giving me the same following error

No data was received to import. Either no file name was submitted, or the file size exceeded the maximum size permitted by your PHP configuration. See FAQ 1.16.

I did follow the instruction verbatim, It is getting confusing

I think I remember having your problem the first time I did this to but it was such a long time ago that I'm having a hard time remembering the solution.

I think it has something to do with either choosing the database you want to export, or choosing the tables you want to export.

What do you see when if you open the extracted file in a text editor (like Notepad).  Do you see your data?  I'm trying to isolate if the problem is with your Export or your Import.

When you go to Export the database, make sure you are actually exporting something.  All your tables should be highlighted and the 'Save as file' template at the bottom should be __DB___

I attached a pic of what it looks like

mtzsw, here is the easiest way for you
1. follow this guide to install wordpress on wamp since it will not work when you copy wordpress folder from your host
http://blog.jlbn.net/?p=34
2. on your host, log into your wordpress dashboard
3. click on Tools
4. click on Export and make sure to select All Authors on Restrict Author
5. click on the button "Download Export File"
6. on local wordpress, log into your wordpress dashboard
7. click on Tools
8. click on Import
9. select Wordpress on the bottom
10. browse to select export xml file from host you've just downloaded
11. click on the button "Upload file and import"
12 check box "Download and import file attachments"
13. click the button "Submit"

GREAT!!! It worked....

However, there is another issue in which I will post separately.

The theme that I had has been replaced by a generic theme.  Is there a different step that I can take to bring my theme?

Please watch for my new post.

Thank you so much.
