Question

jpg images not displaying in my wordpress theme

Asked by: middlebone

I'm trying to convert my site to a wordpress theme. I followed some guides but when I display my page, the page does not pull the .jpg images. I also have an embedded .swf file that does not load either.
www.middlebone.com/blog //this displays the index.php
www.middlebone.com //this dispalys the index.html pages
I've followed the recommended conversion for this task, but style.css will not display the .jpg images from the images folder.

Hello,

Your image location <img src="images/jpg/blueeye.jpg" width="60" height="90" class="image"/> is wrong

Change the src to /images/jpg/blueeye.jpg or ../images/jpg/blueeye.jpg

Thanks

You should use this if you add the image like that in the layout:

<img src"<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/images/jpg/blueeye.jpg" />

But i recommend to add the image image in stylesheet so that you don't have these kind of problems, because the images from your theme are in wp-content/themes/yourtheme/images and in not images/yourimage.jpg. See below for example. Always keep look and feel (layout) images in the stylesheet. Images that you use in the content doesn't matter.

h1 {
background {
url(images/yourimage.jpg) no-repeat left top;
}

therealteune: I followed your advice on loading the jpg from the css background property. In order for it to display I had to specify the width and height attribute. It works fine. I also was able to load the 1px gradient background into the #main_content id by removing the swf file. The swf file was covering up the 1px gradient.

I am having trouble loading the .swf file in the #main_content. Do you have any suggestions.
I have tried loading it using swfObject and that doesn't work either.

Thanks.

Try using the absolute url to the file like below:

or place it in your theme folder and use the url:

http://middlebone.com/blog/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/media/faboulous_site.swf for example

<script type="text/javascript">
   			var so = new SWFObject("http://middlebone.com/media/faboulous_site.swf" , "faboulous_site", "800", "322", "7", "#000000");
   			so.write("main_content");
		</script>

And does it work with the minimal embedded code like this:

<object width="100%" height="100%">
    <param name="movie" value="yourflash.swf">
    <embed src="http://middlebone.com/media/faboulous_site.swf" width="100%" height="100%"> </embed>
  </object>

therealteune: The absolute URL does work, but only with embedded swf file. I had trouble getting it to work with swfObject.

Thank you.

I know probably what the problem is:

Change this in your header.php

Is also recommend reading the theme development docs: http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development

<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/swfobject.js"></script>

or use the Google hosted swfobject file:

<script type="text/javascript" src"http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/swfobject/2.2/swfobject.js"></script>

Ah it worked, check your template for more URL that are pointing to the root instead of theme folder you can use this "<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?> to always point to your theme folder.
