Question

Auto Populate List box on website

Asked by: S_Byers

I am looking for help on how to auto populate a list box from a list of files in a folder on my web server.  Currently we hard code in the links but it would make live so much easier if I could do this automatically.  Could anyone help with this.  I am using Dreamweaver CS4 to design the site.  I was able to get IT to turn on directory browser to allow this function but not sure how to do so.

Please let us know this information>

If it is ASP and you have a Database, then it would make things a lot easier and faster
And I could through some code your way.
PHP, CGI/Perl ---- I cannot assist, but could probably locate some information for you.
HTML - Am not sure how you would go about doing something like this without having
Some type of ServerSide script to help populate the Listbox.

Let us know.

I am trying to use ASP.  Thanks for your help.  ASP is all new to me and would love to switch from html to asp.  I was also wondering if you know how to setup a redirect from a html page to asp page.  Reason for the question is the website is linked to about 50 other sites in our company and linked as .html and it is impossible to get IT to swtich all of them.

Thanks for your help.

You have 2 different questions here on that one.
But no problem.

To redirect do this in <head> of your page.
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=contact.asp">
the "0;
Will redirect as soon as the user hits the page.

As for the main question
You will need to have an Access Database.
Do you have one? And is it located on your site?
Also. Do you have the list of items that you need populated within' the database?

If you have the above, and can provide me with some simple information on your database
And it's structure, I can make you up a demo page with the populated combobox.

I am going to bed now, it is 3:43am EST
So, I will be back on sometime later on in the morning.

Good Luck
