I was trying to ghost a image from HP Elitebook 6930p using ghost 8.2 and flash drive. I receive error ghost cannot create a file preservation metadata file at path. I double checked the dos drivers are correct and i'm able to boot into ghost using flash drive on other laptops and PC's.

I just had this error happen to me as well on a new HP/Compaq 6730b laptop. I found on a Symantec support forum page to copy the ghost.exe file from ghost\ghost.exe into the root.
This made Ghost work, but when you exit ghost, you still get "General Failure Reading Drive C" three times in a row and then "Invalid COMMAND.COM" and "Enter correct name of Command Interpreter
It's an annoyance, but doesn't interfere (so far) with the actual ghost imaging process.

Using your flash drive on one computer like this does not mean it would work on all. One solution would be to have ghost on a cd because there should be no issues in any computer doing that.
