I was wondering is there a product that will allow me to shrink the file size of the image so it will meet the craigslist criteria. I know I can change formats like from BMP to JPG however when I do that it is still often a situation where even that change leaves the image too big and I have to crop the heck out of it leaving the image almost unusable. I have a Nikon D50 that takes great pictures but they are all too large. Any advice would be great.

The easiest solution may be to adjust the image quality of the photos you are taking with your Nikon D50. Go to the Shooting menu and select image size and choose small. Then go to Image Quality from the shooting menu and select basic. This should result in a smaller, more manageable file.
There are a also a number of photo software products available to reduce the file size of your image. If you have Microsoft Office on your computer, Picture Manager will do the trick. Load the image into Picture Manager and select "Resize." From there you can select a predefined width/height, or reduce it based as a percentage.
