Do you need special software to transfer pics from camera to pc?

Most cameras come with their own picture downloading software, but if you take your camera out and want to download from another machine, can you usually download your pics using some standard (probably microsoft) software so you don't have to install your own software on that particular machine?

Most of the time cameras will show up as a removable drive when plugged into another system. From here you should be able to navigate to the folders in the camera and copy the pictures from there. The only thing I can see there maybe being an issue with would be possibly needing a driver for the camera.

I have never had an issue with the microsoft picture viewer and getting pictures off different cameras.

you should be able to with some cameras - when you attach it via usb the cameras often pop up in windows explorer as another drive

i think it is camera dependent though, if it doesn't work for yours google the camera make and model and you should be able to find the software to download

Have you tried looking for the camera drivers / install software ?

As said above, most cameras don't need any install software and work strieght away, but some do come with an install disc.
