I have about 15,000 photos right now and growing. I have Adobe Elements 6 and Photoshop CS3. I have been considering Lightroom. But I currently do not know what the best course of action is, here is my story.
I started organizing photos from the data method of my camera into folders for each event/subject. But this is becoming a problem as it is frequently common that I have many subjects and this is where I see a lot of value of using "TAGS" to organize my photos. I was considering using Adobe Elements 6 to do this, since it has one of the best organizers on the market. But I am concerned on how to store the photos on my system, with over 30GB of photos, I have the recent ones in date organized folders, but most of them are in categories like my sons name, then by year and by event but I can't store them all in one giant folder and use an organizer (I would love to do this and just use a tool like Elements/Lightroom with tags) but the operating system could never handle this many photos in the same folder I assume, and I will probably have problems with naming.
For those using Elements/Lightroom with 10,000+ photos, how do you store them? And is there a way to have the program "re-organize your photos" on the file system so there is some sort of consistency? My OCD would handle it better if I can find a simple way to store the photos on the file system while using tagging in the application to really be able to sort/search/find photos.
Also, if you tag photos in elements and lightroom, will the tags be cross platform available to all applications or are they specific to the application you tag them in?
