Hello everyone,
Does anybody know how to sort of reverse engineer ..so to speak.. a .pdf file? A previous employee created some documents that we need to remove a watermark from and are looking for the simplest way to do it.

Why a "C" grade? You would have received more information if you would have ansered my question about how the watermark was created. Just in case you are not familiar with the grading guidelines, you can look them up here: http://www.experts-exchang

Please don't take it so personally. Your answer was average. I asked how to fix something and you gave me a program that would hopefully solve it. It seems that most of the time I ask a question the respondant on AVERAGE just tells me about a program that will hopefully fix the problem. So, your answer was...average. I am sorry if I offended you by giving you a C.
It seems you are correct. I had not read the EE guidelines, which according to them, yes, you deserved an A, However, the descriptions on the page where I gave you your grade were: "Excellent!", "Good!", and "Average". I don't quite understand why "Average." is next to the C on the grading page, but in the guidelines they imply that a C grade is subpar. Seems a little confusing. Nevertheless, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with me and I hope to be able to work with you on another issue in the future.

How was the watermark added? If you used a tool like stores the watermark as "marked content", it's relatively easy to remove it. You can for example use Acrobat 6 and select the "View>Navigation Tabs>Content" menu item to display the content pane. This allows you to go from page to page and remove the watermark manually by looking for the marked content ID.
If that's not the case, you can still use the same tool and look for the actual string and remove that.
Or, you can select the Object touchup tool and click on every occurance of the watermark on a page.
These manual methods have one serious drawback: They are very slow and labor intensive...
With a tool like Enfocus PitStop Professional you can write an action script that searches for text in a certain font, of a certain size and removes it automatically. You can download a 30 day evaluation copy of PitStop at http://www.enfocus.com
If you are really desperate and none of the other methods work, you can write (or have somebody write) an Acrobat plug-in that searches and deletes these watermarks.
