The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PDF writer not finding lpt1 (adobe 5)

Asked by sammaell in Adobe Acrobat

Tags: adobe, determined, uninstallation

I am trying to install adobe 5 on a win2k advanced server used as a citrix server. Version 6 does not work with citrix (cannot create pdf's. acknowledged by both citrix and adobe). I uninstalled 6, installed 5, i get the error message "acrobate pdfwriter requires an lpt1: port. Setup could not find this required port. The pdf writer component will not be installed."

There is a working lpt1: port on the server. i went so far as to actually install a local printer on this port and printed to it just fine. Why wont setup recognise the port? i have removed and recreated the port several times. i have removed and installed adobe 5 several times. i have rebooted the server several times.

Additionally, when i go to install version 5, i get a pop up message stating "Setup has determined that an unInstallation has not completed, please reboot....". i have done this several times.

I am guessing that  6 didnt uninstall correctly, and its messing up 5. i cant find any traces of 6 left on the system though. i am at a loss as to what to do now, i called adobe and they no longer support version 5.  i have the CFO of my company wanting this working yesterday, any help would be appeciated.
