Rectangle tool problem - Acrobat 7

Hi

We often have to pass documents to our Clients which contain information we do not wish them to see.  We have used the Rectangle tool with a background color of white and a border of zero pix to blank the text and then print the document and give it to the Client.

This worked fine under Acrobat 5, but under Acrobat 7 , when you print the document the rectangle disappears and the the text which is meant to be hidden is not hidden.

Any ideas??

Actually, that's a really bad way to hide information and you should stop doing it immediately.  Anyone with Acrobat can simply delete your boxes, and it might be possible to highlight and copy the hidden text without even doing that.

Acrobat 8 includes "redaction", which will actually remove the information you want to from the PDF...replacing it with a box or X's or whatever you like.  I suggest you get at least a trial of Acrobat 8 and try it out.

Thanks for the reply Funkmotor.  We are only hiding the information when we print the files - not the actual saved copy, so it's still a viable way to hide the information.  Quick and dirty I agree - but still saves time and effort.

Ah.  This really shouldn't be a problem.  I don't have Acrobat 7 loaded up, but it might be that it's making the white transparent when it prints.  Try making the box black or some other color and see what happens.

I have stumbled on the answer myself.  It's a setting in the print dialog to print "document and Markup" - problem solved!
