The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Adobe Distiller not responding

Hi All

I'm trying to help someone reduce the number of clicks/steps required to open a PostScript file in Adobe Acrobat 7.05 Standard

Currently - the user runs Oracle inside IE7 - they click a 'View Output' button - which causes IE7 to ask if you want to save or Open the .ps file. Currently - the user has to click 'Save As' - save it to a folder on his desktop. Then when the file finishes downloading it has the 'Open', 'Open Folder', etc buttons. He can click Open - which will open the file in Adobe Distiller - convert the .ps file to .pdf and open the pdf in Acrobat.

It would be preferrable to click the 'View Output' button - and then just click Open in the IE7 download confirmation dialog box - but when we do this - Distiller hangs and doesn't convert the file to pdf. It doesn't appear to start the conversion process at all.

The only real difference between the 2 methods is the location of the .ps file - the former being in a folder on the users desktop - the latter being in the Temporary Internet Files folder for IE7.

Two other Oracle users do not have this problem. A former IT Staff member fixed the problem once before by fluke - but he isn't the kind of guy who writes documentation - sigh.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
