The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Access VBA & PDF Automated Splitting of Pages by Variable

Asked by SeanStrickland in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Access Database, Access Coding/Macros

Tags: ,

I have a 280-400 page PDF file that I need to be able to open up, look for variables, and split accordingly.

I would love to be able to split the large PDF into smaller PDF files by locating a variable (Account #), parsing out that Account #'s pages, and saving it to a PDF document.  From that point, I would like to add a field to my tblAccounts table called pdfLocation that would save the location of the PDF file that is stored so it can be called upon using the application.followhyperlink method (or similar alternative).
[For this: How do I open the PDF with Access VBA, find variables/fields to designate where to split the document, split the pages out into a new file (create a PDF, essentially), then move to the next?]

If that does not work, I can save the PDF files as text and write vbscript that will parse the code into fields for document tracking within Access, but I want to avoid this if possible.
[For this: How can I open a PDF document from Access VBA, and save it as a .txt file using the method in Adobe Reader?  I can reference the text file through FSO after that and get what I need.]

I am using Access '97, and have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.  I can purchase a license for Adobe 7 Professional if necessary, but would rather avoid that and work with what I have, if possible.  Downloading third-party items may not be an alternative as my IT department has strict constraints around third-party software.

Thanks,
