Acrobat Javascript Change Text Field Properties

I am new to javascript but trying to figure out how to make a text field read only upon the click of a submit button. When they click submit it will change to read only then email to another dept for approval. The other department will only be able to read not edit.

The code I have so far is just to give an idea of what I'm looking for.
