Problem converting Microsoft Publisher (2003) file into a PDF using Acrobat 8 in the CS3 Suite

When I convert a Publisher (2003) file into PDF using Adobe CS3, my PDF is distorted.  The higher the resolution I use to convert into PDF (ex. "Press Quality") the worse the distortion.  Any ideas on a solution?  Wondering if updating to CS4 and Microsoft 7 would allow the programs to communicate easier.

Clarify distortion, and before you do, make sure you zoom in to 100% view

Thank you for responding.

Document #1.  On one publisher document containing a png file, after convertion into PDF format (via Acrobat 8 - Adobe CS3), the final version has multiple horizontal lines throughout the document.  It slightly shifts the pic from side to side above and below the line.  I am converting in "Press Quality", but I notice less distortion in "Standard" conversion.

Document #2.  On another publisher document containing a chart of data (png file as well), after converting into PDF format, some the characters in the chart are changed.  Sometimes the 1 turns into a ' and sometimes a 0 turnes into a C.  It appears during the conversion process some of the characters are chopped off, but not consistantly throughout the document.  The distortion does not follow any consistent pattern, meaning the distortion isn't in a straight verticle, or straight horizontal line.  It's more sporatic in sections.

Would upgrading to CS4 and Publisher 7 eliminate this communication problem?

No, i doubt upgrading will solve the issue;
I'd suggest: In Acrobat, open the distiller (which controls all your conversion settings) by selecting the Advanced menu > Print Production > Distiller
In distiller, choose a Default Setting like Standard or Press Quality; From the settings menu choose Edit Adobe PDF Settings; On the first screen change Object Level Compression to Off; Turn off Optimize for fast web view; In the image category, make sure Color Image Quality is set to High; In the advanced category turn off Convert Smooth Lines to Curves, then click OK and save the new settings file with any name of your choice; When you create the PDF, use the new settings file;

Great idea, however when I tried it, there was no difference.

I printed the PNG file, and the Publisher file by themselves with no distortion.  After I convert the document into PDF, the lines appear.  

Unsure of what to try next.

it might be easier to diagnose if you could attach a pdf; I'm drawing at straws but my next guess is that your png files are only 72dpi.

What about if you convert a Word file to a PDF the same way. What happens? Does it work?
