Microsoft Document Imaging - Error was encountered while trying to send text to Word.

When opening up a .tif file, if they select Send text to Word..., it'll open 3 instances of Word and display an error in Microsoft Office Document Imaging saying "An error was encountered while trying to send text to Word.  Please verify that Word is properly installed."

I've tried a detect and repair.  I've found several KB fixes since service pack 3 seemed to break .tif association.  I've also tried using a different profile and it's not profile related.

So it appears to be something on the machine either a missing KB or something with the office installation which would require a uninstall/reinstall.  I would like to avoid the uninstall/reinstall, but if it's a last resort then I have no choice.

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this issue.

I assume all patches are current then?

Not necessarily.  Being in a corporate environment not all patches get applied as it might break in house applications etc.  We knew about the .tiff association and that patch had been applied.

Assuming that it had received the same patches as my machine and everyone elses, we know that it works on our machines, but not the individual users.

I'm going to try copying my MODI folder and removing the users and pasting mine in to see if it makes any difference.

If you have any suggestions, i'm all ears.

I'm not really familiar with MODI but have you tried running a Repair rather than reinstall?

Yeah I've tried a repair first and then a uninstall/reinstall of MODI by going through Add/Remove programs, clicking on "Change" for Office Professional and unselecting MODI.  Reversed the process to reinstall.

It looks like the Matrox Powerdesk software used with Dualheads2go was causing the issue.

After exiting the application, the program will work fine.  I stumbled across it when I tested it on my PC and it worked and it prompted to enter in the document properties for Word.  In the past we've seen the Matrox Powerdesk software "hide" popups off the screen (such as username/password prompts), so I gave it a shot and it's working now.
