I have been Ghostscript to convert pdf to tif images for a few years. The pdf we were converting were all forms that we were generating and the quality was always good enough. Recently we started accepting pdf from outside sources and I am finding that the tif that result from how I am using Ghostscript ,are not good enough.
We also have to convert word files to tif images, for that I am using a virtual tiff printer called the Universal Document Converter (
www.print-driver.com). One of the options you are allowed to select when you setup the printing preferences is High Quality Dithering. When I print these new pdf via the printdriver with High Quality Dithering enabled the tifs look great. I dont know what High Quality Dithering is but does Ghostscript have anything like it?
Our tif specs are the following:
Compression: CCITT group 4
Resolution: 200x200
I have attached a zip with a sample of converted output both from Ghostscript (fileName:/bad) and the printdriver (fileName:/good). Both files are .tif images but since expers-exchange does not allow the ".tif" extention i have removed the extentions.
